Bushwalla’s Alien caught on a 5D

I was filming a promo for Bushwalla.net on the Canon 5D (displayed by Billy aka Bushwalla) using my favorite setup for run & gun shooting with wireless audio. I used a RedRock rig with Anton Battery on the back of the shoulder-mount balacing the camera, Canon EF lens, Marshall 7″ Monitor with HDMI input and a Beachtek preamplifier that connects to two Sennheiser wireless recievers. Everthing mounts solidly on the rig and travels easily. I popped in a Hoodman RAW CF card to record on and mic-ed the guys with wireless transmitters.

The promo was written by the very talented and funny comedian Smooth-E (smooth-e.tv) who is the green dude in the pucture.

Check out Bushwalla’s music and buy his tracks! One of my favorites is titled “Self Depreciating Hip Hop.”

Vegas Shoot with 7D & Film Lenses

I’m operating on a commercial shoot for my buddy Paul and we’re using a Canon 7D converted by HotRod camera to accept PL mount film lenses. We opted for Cooke S4 primes. The look is amazing and the lenses are pretty compact so our camera setup is pretty manageable. While AC Alex pulls focus off the small Marshall monitor, the director can watch the large 26″ monitor remotely because we are converting and spliting the HDMI output to SDI using a simple Black Magic box. Small setup, great image quality and easy to operate.

Cool Video by my friend

Dude!  Check out what Jeremy did.  He was the colorist for my Indian Gangster Project.  Very talented and inventive use of limited resources.

NAB 2010 Report – Part 1: DSLR

NAB 2010 was quite a huge affair this year in Vegas.  It's the biggest conference on geeky toys for the film and television industries.  The focus was definitely on 3D, but another important topic was simplified and cheaper workflow.  That is why the Canon DSLR technologies were discussed by everyone and anyone.

At the Canon booth, there was an on-site theater that played the Canon showreel.  "Indian Gangster" (www.indiangangster.com) was a part of the reel so I had to check it out.  It was awesome to see my little film cut together with some of the coolest projects from around the world, made by very talented professionals.

Rodney Charters also spoke about "Indian Gangster" daily in a talk he gave at the Canon booth and showed off the trailer.
